When you hear (in the news) or read (in the paper or a news magazine) a reference to "fundamentalist Christians" or "evangelicals," who do you take that to mean?
Are Southern Baptists fundamentalists or evangelicals?
I'm not looking to box anyone out or in; I just want to know who these terms (in general usage) refer to. What's your take?

Re: Evangelical / Fundamentalist---who is who?
Tue, November 13, 2007 - 9:42 AMIam not sure I like how either are applied. Usually these terms are used to describe people who's beliefs and actions are very unfundamental, and very unevangelical.

Thu, November 15, 2007 - 8:18 AMdon't evangelicals go door to door preaching the gospel to those who may or may not want to hear it?
that is my thought on when evangelical is mentioned. Not saying it is right, just saying it's what comes to mind.

Not necessarily, no. And some who go door to door are not evangelical. (Jehovah's Witnesses and Mormons go door to door but they are not evangelical in the normal sense.)
There's an evangelical wing of the Lutheran Church--I don't think they ever go door to door.
I think the *narrow* meaning of evangelical is "non-liturgical, conservative." I think, for example, Baptists consider themselves evangelical but not fundamentalists.
